All REAC Inspections Postponed due to COVID-19 / Coronavirus

All REAC Inspections Postponed for Undetermined Period of Time

Earlier today, March 13, 2020, HUD REAC sent a notification to licensed REAC Inspectors stating that currently scheduled inspections were to be canceled.

Until further notice, the Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) is postponing all property inspections on all Public-housing, Multi-family and Servicing Mortgagee properties.

It is unclear at this time what will happen in the long-term. We are hopeful that owners, agents, and industry stakeholders will receive a more detailed notice about this delay, though at this time, none has been provided.  Yesterday, March 12, 2020, the office of Multifamily Housing sent a notice out regarding changes amid the COVID-19 outbreak, it can be found here: Coronavirus-related Questions & Answers. There are some very helpful answers on topics such as delayed recertifications and other issues that may result from this crisis.

We will try to get you all of the information as soon as it is available, information such as the notice from HUD REAC is always preferred to be communicated only when it has been officially announced to industry stakeholders.  During this time of uncertainty, caution is always the best policy. Those of us in this industry serve needy and underserved populations who can be particularly at risk, such as elderly or disabled households. Residents may look to management for advice, comfort, and understanding during this time of great anxiety.  We can provide them with the best advice, which is to take good hygiene precautions, seek out the most current facts, don’t panic, and immediately seek treatment if symptoms should arise.
